Historical Society
The Troup Genealogical/Historical Society was established March 21, 1998. The
purpose of the Society is to bring together persons researching family and the
local history of Troup and the surrounding communities. The organization strives
to collect, preserve, and make available to the public, materials on family
genealogies and community history. The group meets four times a year - February,
May, August, and November - and publishes a newsletter preceding each meeting.
All who wish to learn more about the histories of their families and communities
are welcome.
Joint Projects of the Friends of the Troup Library
and the Troup Genealogical/Historical Society
The Troup Genealogical/Historical Society and the Friends of the Troup Library
have worked together and are continuing to work together on several projects. In
1999 they presented the multifaceted Troup Goes to War: World War II project. It
included a dinner with a program by Troup veterans; a historical exhibit; and a
book. The organizations continue to sell the book, which contains over 200
photographs and almost 300 entries. Currently, they are working on a history of
Troup and a series of historical exhibits, including this one.
Continuing projects for the TGHS include production of Historical Calendars of Troup. Each calendar features a different photograph for every month plus additional photographs on the front and back covers. The TGHS has also developed a collection of CDs spanning 75 years of the Troup Banner newspaper from September of 1903 through 1978. For more information on the purchase of these items contact:
